It's not just our dedicated staff who help us fight poverty and suffering. Our volunteers and fundraisers make a huge contribution to our work.
Being here at Oxfam was one of the best decisions I have ever made to implement my career for the better.
I am a second year undergraduate student with the focus on Communications, so trying out to be part of various organisations is the ultimate way to find the real path I want to adopt for my future specialization.
Before starting this internship, I was almost positive that social and civic engagement(since I have been involved in community work ever since I was 13-14), regional development as well as gender issues are what interested me the most in this field. However, my prior volunteering experiences have only set the determination but did not give me practical knowledge. It has only been a month in here but it seems like I have completed a whole other degree at a university because the amount of information and work that I did in this short period of time has taught me so much. I can now communicate with other NGOs, gather information, create schedules, learn about advocacy skills and develop them on my own, analyse reports, make my own conclusions and contribute to the project development I am focused on right now.
I don't think I could have found a better place to start my career other than here. The staff perceives me as an equal experienced co-worker and asks my opinion while altering any changes in the process. This gives me so much confidence and faith in myself. I start to actually believe in whatever I am doing and whatever I am capable of.
Thank you all for everything you
