“Supporting Community Resilience in the South Caucasus” Programme
"Supporting Community Resilience in the South Caucasus" programme is funded by European Commission under DG European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations Programme (DG ECHO) and implemented by Oxfam in Armenia partnering with "OxYGen" Foundation.
The project increases disaster resilience of local communities and relevant national institution by supporting strategies that enable them to prepare for, mitigate and respond to disasters in the South Caucuses region, specifically, to institutionalize government support for the community based DRR model at the local, regional and national levels in Armenia.
Expected results of the Project:
1. Target communities and local governments strengthen their preparedness to natural disasters through provision of technical assistance.
2. Target communities engage and invest in inter-country and cross-country replication of DRR integrated models and best practices.
3. Leading national and regional stakeholders collaborate and support coordination of DRR advocacy and awareness initiatives.
The action stimulates establishing stronger connections among national, regional and local disaster management actors starting, primarily, from the grassroots level where Oxfam and OxYGen and their partners will strengthen its comprehensive resilience approach involving 18 vulnerable communities (16 villages and 2 towns).
Target communities are Aknaghbuyr, Hovk, Sevqar, Tsaghkavan, Gosh, Getahovit, Ditavan, Aygehovit, Khashtarak, Sarigyugh, Yenokavan, Achajur, Ptghavan, Haghtanak, Ljkadzor, Koghb, Dilijan and Ijevan.
-Local Level Risk Management (LLRM) report preparation,
-expert capacity building of regional Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) teams on LLRM assessment,
-establishment of the inclusive Green Lab
- Regional Resilience Forum in Tavush
-supporting development of Disaster risk reduction (DRR) and Emergency Situation (ES) plans in all educational institutions of Tavush Marz,
-awareness raising seminars on first aid, climate change adaptation, inclusiveness and gender in DRR, behavioral rules in emergency situation and other DRR topics,
-implementation of small-scale mitigation projects,
-audio-visual alarm system installment for schools,
-early warning systems for Hovk and Gosh communities of Dilijan, supporting coordination and advocacy work improvement at local,
-implementation of other activities on DRR and resilience building.
Within the Project Oxfam and OxYGen are collaborating with Bridge of Hope and Stepanavan Rescuing team “LORE” NGO-s, Tavush Marzpetaran, Tavush Regional Rescue Service, Disaster Risk Reduction National Platform foundation (DRR NP), DIPECHO 4 partner organizations:Save the Children, Armenian Red Cross, UNDP, UNICEF, and relevant national, regional and local authorities.
